Calculators

Short interest (number of shares sold short) is a measure of traders' sentiment.  Short interest is considered a contrary indicator.  The more shorted a stock is, the more likely it will go UP on a "short squeeze".

This calculator will give you the short interest for a given stock symbol plus a lot of short interest-related variables, like short ratio, float, short share % vs. float and much more.

Is my stock pick shortable?  We have the "banned stocks" list!

NASD rule 3370, which was designed to prevent abusive short selling and ensure that short sellers satisfy their settlement obligations, forces brokers to maintain "easy-to-borrow" and "hard-to-borrow" stocks lists.  Hard-to-borrow stocks (mostly stocks hit by very bad news, small caps, and highly shorted stocks) are often unavailable for short selling.
